SUMMER : Labor Day Weekend Sans Fog
Click on the pictures to enlarge.
With everyone
crowding the roads and heading to Tahoe or LA, Labor Day weekend
was the ideal time to stay and exlplore San Francisco - especially
considering the weather was unusually hot and sunny. So I headed
up to Andrew's in the City. The first evening was spent destroying
a few brain cells on the Haight. Our mission was easily accomplished,
thanks to the English bartender who decided to grace us with discounted
Jack and Cokes.
The following
day was spent recovering on Baker Beach. Little did we know we were
in the freaky clothing-optional section, which was at times entertaining,
and at other times traumatic. If there's anything to be said for
nude beaches, it's that you don't have to go find a place to change
into your trunks. Of course, what was intended to be a short visit
turned out to be an all-day sunning. Not because of the nudity,
mind you, but because it was an unbelievable 90 degrees. Remember,
this is in San Fran-freakin-cisco.
With the weather
holding its course the next day, I came back up with my bike,
filled with the silly notion of biking from the Western Addition,
through Golden Gate Park, up into the Park Presidio, across the
Golden Gate Bridge, and into Sausalito. Somehow, we achieved this
- then quickly headed for Margaritaville to recover. Fortunately,
we made some friends at the watering hole - they put our bikes
in their trunk and shuttled us back to the city, sparing us of
certain collapse. All said and done, a brilliant weekend!
