SONIC
YOUTH : Live @ the Fillmore
Two scalped tickets: $65. T-shirt: $15. Drinks: $50. Getting
great pictures of a legendary band and being the envy of
indie rock geeks everywhere: Priceless. |

SF
SUMMER: Labor Day Weekend Sans Fog
What better way to send summer packing then by having an
actual, bona fide sunny weekend in San Francisco? Join me
and Andrew on our adventure through the Haight, Baker Beach,
and the grueling bike trip to Sausalito. |
 |
SF
SERENITY : Chillin' at the Palace of Fine Arts
In this short, retro-active gallery, you can catch a glimpse
of a relaxing, peaceful visit to San Francisco's Palace
of Fine Arts. Never mind that it's all a big stucco shell
that was built for an exposition. It's still very pretty. |
 |
LENNY KRAVITZ : Shoreline Amphitheatre
Here's your front-row ticket to anthemic rock and deep down funk, courtesy of one painfully-hidden camera snuck into Mountain View's premiere concert venue.
|
 |
FIRE
: One Way to Get the Day Off
What better excuse to get out of work early than, say, when
the megacomplex right next door goes up in flames? If you're
a pyromaniac, this gallery is a wet dream come true. If
you're sane like the rest of us, then it's at the very least
an interesting look at a huge firestorm from fairly close-up. |
 |
AROUND
THE WORLD : A Six-Part Epic
My
first real vacation since high school warranted nearly 300
photos (before being pared down), 6 huge pages of text (which
I haven't pared down enough), and - pretty soon - a liver
transplant. See what happens when a man with no willpower
is sent from San Francisco to Bristol to Glastonbury to
London to New York City ::deep breath:: and Southern California
in just over a week. |
 |
FOAMING
: At the Mouth, In Your Hair, Wherever
To
make up for the last one being short, this collection is
rather large. But with a talented line-up including Josh
Wink, Wish FM, and Dirty Vegas, how could it not be? Throw
in a fire dancer, cool people, and gallons and gallons of
foam, and you've got the makings of a great night. Check
out the trip to Ibiza. (Not Spain, unfortunately.)

BT
in SF : He's Still Not a DJ but He Rocks
This
is a short gallery, primarily because if you're an Album
regular, you've likely seen many of the same types of shots.
It's also short because of sheer exhaustion. At any rate,
this is how going to the City to see BT turned out.

WHIRLWIND
WEEKEND : Four Days.. What's Sleep?
So
before embarking on this outing, I promised myself that
any little holidays I take will be relaxing, not hurried,
and rejuvenating to some degree. I lied. This weekend travelogue
spans from San Jose to Los Angeles and back up to San Francisco.
From driving to hiking to beach-bumming, to rocking out,
and then partying. And not sleeping. Life is good.

DRIFTERS
: Brief Excerpts from a Hazy Evening
Not
having the best time? That's alright, Mr. Daniels will make
everything all better. How does he do it? By making everything
turn red. And by erasing your memory... For the third time
in four weeks, I mutter, "I'm not doing that
again."

PARTY
NAKED AGAIN : Slight Return
Apparently,
seeing Miguel Migs and Lisa Shaw at Coachella a couple of
weeks beforehand wasn't enough of a Naked fix, so we hit
up the Naked Music party at SF's Kelly's Mission Rock. They
were serving up a serious blend of house, breaks, Red Bull,
and... cherries?

COACHELLA
2002 : Dancing in the Desert
Flying
to Southern California for a weekend festival on a day's
notice and 2 hours sleep? No problem. Somehow recovering
afterward? Still doing it. Looking forward to doing it again?
Hell yes! Check out the biggest album installation to date
and see how I envision heaven: 60 artists, 4 stages, 3 babes,
2 wristbands and 100 proof - you do the math!

GROOVE
ARMADA : Tearin' It Up at Ruby Skye
Yes,
work was torture the next day, but it was worth going to
party on a Thursday night as the Groove Armada rocked the
City with their delectable blend of beats. It was all smooth
sailing...
|
 |
WEEKENDERS
: Family Friends and Fun
What
do blackouts, green grills, darts, and a wet pussy have
in common? Pretty much nothing. But I hereby present to
you a brief gallery that's not about clubbing and not about
a road trip and not about nature. Really.

MAS
KINKY QUE TU : Funky Latin House Music Infects SF
Combine
2 parts house music, 1 part funk, 1.5 cups of Ritmo, and
what do you have? A kickin' live performance by Mexico's
Kinky, who were laying it down at the Elbo Room. Check this
album out, and don't forget to watch the Quicktime movie
at the end.

THE
WEST IS THE BEST : Bristol's Finest Land in SF
Way
Out West of the UK graced San Francisco with their presence,
and we were there for it... With phenomenal music, a bunch
of free drinks, and entirely too much out-of-place CandE
Kid behavior (ewwwww) it made for a kickin' night out with
the boys.

SPRING
HAS SPRUNG : A Brief Look at the Fertile Season
Ah,
Spring... the sun starts to shine once again, the landscapegoes
green, the animals are out and about and doing it in public
view, and my allergies start acting up. I love this season!
Load up on your Claritin or Allegra and check out what the
first moments of Spring look like in my neck of the woods.

B-BALL
'N THE BAY : College Hoops and Hangin' in SF
My
first mini-vacation of the year turns out to be a triple-header.
NCAA college basketball, touristry in the City, and, of
course, diggin' that club vibe. Check out the March madness
that took almost a month to organize and post!

 |
SF
CRAWL : From Pub to Pub to Club in Search of Vibe
Looking
to have an amazing time but having no plan whatsoever, it
was yet another trip to SF for some partying, and as luck
would have it, the people, the drinks, and Josh Wink made
it a memorable night out. |
 |
DEEP
RELEASE : Deep Dish Return to Release SF
It
was rainy. Parking was a hassle. Tthings didn't go quite as
planned to start the evening, but how can you possibly
go wrong when Deep Dish is spinning? Check out this week's
party action, including one video clip! |
 |
DETOX
DAY: Hiking the Hills of the South Bay
In
much need of recovery after the antics of the Naked party
the night before, we got all pastoral (or is it rural? rustic?)
or some fancy word like that just minutes from the cold, glassy
business parks of Silicon Valley. |
 |
PARTY
NAKED: The Naked Music Tour Hits SF
The
night started out being all about music and a good time. It
turned out to be all about people. Here's to an unforgettable
night and a scene that reminds us to celebrate life. |
 |
SPUNDAE
NIGHT: 9 Years Culminating in a Few Perfect Hours
Sunday
night means the legendary Spundae in SF. Presidents Day weekend
means an extended night. Spundae's 9th anniversary means that
all hell was set to break loose - in a good way. |
 |
SIX UNDERGROUND: Subterranean Partying in SF
Friday
night often calls for a trek to the city. A handful of us
gathered at Club Six, the literally underground club in the
loveliest part of San Fran Disco. |
 |
DECADE
OF DRIVING: 10 Years of Road Trips
My
addiction to seeing the continent by road started at age 16.
Over the years, a number of trip photos have been scanned.
Here are a selection of scans covering 1991-2001. |

Sunday
Drive: Palo Alto to San Gregorio
Frustrated
with a computer and not enthralled by the NFC championship
game, Dave & I take off on a drive through the woods and
end up with a bunch of nature photos. |
 |
New
Year's Eve 2002
A
wordy pictorial about a night of fondues, sushi, and infamous
Celebrities. Many thanks to Gareth & Jess for hosting
the festivites. Rumor has it there are some pictures in there,
too. |
