| There's
nothing like a little mid-week partying. And when Britain's
groovy Groove Armada is on the bill, it's sure to be a hellish
workday that follows. We met up at Andrew's new digs in
the City, where our host kicked back on the plush couches
of his very red living room. Now Dave's picture here - you
can't enlarge it - why? Because as a small one, it looks
like he's throwing up before the night's begun. In reality,
he's eating a potato chip, as is Dara, a new addition to
the Gallery's ever-growing cast of characters. |
|
|
| So
after munching on some black pepper potato chips and loading
up on some Irish Stout of some sort, it was time to head
off for the oft-pretentious but always nice looking Ruby
Skye. |
|
|
| The
big fancy lighting in the mainroom couldn't keep opening
DJ Tom Thump's beats perfectly aligned, but what he lacked
in technical skill he more than made up for with track selection.
Even the folks upstairs couldn't ignore how cool
the tunes he picked were... |
|
|
| Meanwhile,
whilst guzzling drinks in the upstairs lounge, we couldn't
help but say, "Nice Rack!" Referring to the pool
table, of course. It had *ahem* nothing to do with our waitress,
right? Hello? That's an awful big tip... As for this tight-shirted
gentleman on the right, he was begging to have his picture
taken with Jeff. So, umm, yeah, there you are dude. He was
the first among many strangers to beg to have their picture
taken and then not ask for a URL. Whatever floats your boat,
kids... |
|
|
| We
eventually found Dara in time for a group shot and then... |
|
|
| The
Groove Armada! Featuring a couple of turntables, some CD
players, samplers, and Cousin It on drums!! |
|
|
| Everybody
was having a good time, and I love documenting that. Pics
of total strangers having a blast are my specialty. But
please, for the love of god, the joke about "as long
as it's not for a porn site" has gotten as old as Keith
Richards. (Glaring at "Katie" and Playboy girl
there.) I have no complaints, though - Put a few drinks
in me and a digital camera in my hand and suddenly everyone
at the show is a close friend of mine... |
|
|
| ...
Including Groove Armada's staff, like the video camera guy.
Speaking of videos, click on this one for a bit of "Superstylin." |
|
|
| Thanks
to them being a couple of cool, chill dudes, I had access
to the kinds of shots that follow. You guys rock almost
as hard as your boss! |
|
|
| Andy,
tall mofo that he is, plays his bass practically all up
on his chest. I guess at 6'10", everything looks funny
on you. Either way, he laid down the funk and kept it going
for a good while. But didn't his mom teach him about drinking
water when holding something that's plugged in? Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztt!
|
|
|
| Yes,
one could easily say that a good time was had by all...
And to think, there'd be more to come in two days at Coachella!
See you next album... |
